Dr. Castellano obtained her BA degree in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine And Health Sciences / College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine, Cardiology Research fellowship and Cardiology fellowship at the University of Arizona. Her special interests in cardiology focus on non-invasive cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, nuclear medicine and cardiac CT. Dr. Castellano joined the Southwest Heart medical practice in 2007 and since 2011 has been part of Carondelet Specialist Group.

Dr. Castellano is the best doctor I have, and I have a range of specialist doctors at my age with both routine and special health concerns. She is always pleasant and caring, asks questions about my on-going issues, explains test results, often drawing diagrams to illustrate, and answers my questions, listening and responding to my concerns. I never feel like she's in a hurry to finish, even though she has more patients to see. Because of how great a doctor she is, I just had my husband begin to see her when his PCP recommended cholesterol medication for him. I have a complicated health history and she did an excellent job of assimilating a large amount of information (labs, images,medical history, opinions of other specialists) and coming up with an individualized treatment plan for me. She was able to fine-tune exactly what I needed to do to help stabilize my condition. She was attentive, listened well and was extremely knowledgeable and current with the latest research so we could make the best medication decisions for me. She gave me ample time to discuss my questions and concerns.

The staff at the registration were amazing. Made me feel very comfortable. Has a great sense of humor as do I. I arrived very early since I thought I had to fill the form with all my info. Wonderful surprise; it had all been taken care. As I sat there I saw how very well they created arriving (and departing) patients; exactly as they did me. I have considerable pain in my back (scoliosis, etc.) So I carry a heated "bean bag" with me. I asked if they could heat reheat it in their microwave. They were delighted to do. As the saying goes "That was the icing on the cake!"

I think (hope) I already commented on everything all of the staff to make my visit "pleasurable"! A strange adjective to use when visiting a Cardiologist. But that was how I felt. You ask if would (have already done so) recommend the practice to others. Thus far: My daughter (Masters in Cognitive Psychology) and son-in-law (PhD, now a licensed professional agent). A very close friend (former diplomat, now retired). Another close friend, now working outside Zurich as Global Chief Marketing Officer for Unilever's Pepsi/Lupton. I have added their titles because all of them are "influencers" and trust when I speak highly of the practice. I have spoken to others also. I am very fortunate to have friends who care about my health!

From start to finish Dr. Castellano was solicitous, asked key questions abt my previous surgeries, health problems. Explained everything in a manner that treated me as a grown up. I realize I am 79, but recently with another physician (Not in your practice) I felt like a 5 year old. I have, as a rule, always been treated as an intelligent person, with whom a physician can discuss any of my health problems. As Dr. Castellano continued her exam, etc. I began to develop a strong sense of trust, frankly, in anything she suggested for next steps. As I am writing this now, a week later I feel very comfortable

Dr. Castellano was called to my bedside at St. Joesephs (2015) after a 12.5 spinal fusion surgery. I went into aFib. I have total trust in her care. Dr. Castellano is the kind of doctor we all hope to have. First, she really listens. So often in my experience, doctors appear to half-listen as they are typing on a keyboard, and don't take the time to establish a personal contact with their patients. Dr. Castellano and I sat together and actually had an extended conversation in my first visit, where she listened to my past medical history and new concerns. She asked meaningful questions, made accurate observations, and scheduled necessary testing before we would move forward to making certain determinations about treatment. The point is, Dr. Castellano took the time to satisfy my concerns without making me feel rushed and leaving with things left to address. This rarely happens in my experience. Second, Dr. Castellano's manner is caring, yet professional. She helped me feel confident that I would have answers to questions. And third, Dr. Castellano explains things in straightforward terms I can understand. She drew diagrams to explain certain results from my testing during our second meeting. These were helpful, and I was able to use them to explain test results to my family later. In summary, I am so thrilled to have such a caring, knowledgeable, and competent doctor as my new cardiologist. Thank you, Dr. Castellano!

Dr. C. is the type of doctor I always look for: she listens to me, does not treat me like a patient out of a medical book & explains my questions very well & doesn't make me feel like she has another patient in the waiting room! Dr. C is almost a perfect doctor! My P.Care doctor is just like her and I have been going to him for over 5 years. It took me almost 2 years to find my PCare doctor, but he was worth the wait- lucky for me he recommend Dr. C right away and I didn't have to go to several doctors before I found an excellent heart doctor!

I found the clinic exceptionally clean, the front desk personnel friendly and courteous; as well as back office person. Dr. Castellano was excellent and empathetic towards me. She seemed interested in my health (cardiac) and in my general health. I was somewhat surprised that my first visit was with a specialty doctor and not with a PC, as I need a pc who can order labs which I need, and referrals for podiatry, etc. I recently moved to Green Valley and I am trying to establish myself as a patient w/o having to drive onto Tucson.
