Katie S. Artz, M.D., M.S. is originally from Tucson. She has wanted to become a doctor since she was in grade school. She attended the University of San Diego for a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry & Spanish. Achieving a double major while playing NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer and Co-chairing Associated Students Community Service Program in 4 years. She went on to obtain a master’s in science in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry at Arizona State University. After only 2 years she published several papers and defended her thesis in photosynthesis as energy. She was then accepted to the University of Arizona Medial School where she graduated and matched at first in Obstetrics going on to a General Surgery residency. She proctors, advises, and speaks on mesh, techniques, and robotic surgery around the country. Dr. Atrz is one of the newest members of the Arizona Medical Board representing other doctors and protecting the public. Dr. Artz is an advocate for education. She mentors high school students, college students, and medical students on career pathways in the medical field. She takes her family on medical missions to Honduras, Bolivia, and the Dominican Republic. Dr. Artz is married to a wonderful man that she has been with for over 26 years. Her son is a competitive soccer player, talented pianist, and a blackbelt in Taekwondo. Her daughter is accomplished in piano, violin, and gymnastics. The family has 3 dogs that think they are human. She is very passion about being back in Tucson and the people who live here. Wanting to provide them with the best possible care from the bottom of her heart. She takes care of people with the utmost skill meanwhile treating you as if you were part of her family.

Dt. Artz is the best surgeon I've ever met. She saved my life back in 2021 and gave me a chance. SHe is truly an amazing surgeon. And she absolutely knows when not to cut. Which is a scientific experience and expertise in her field. She knew with my surgical history and my abdomen that a feeding tube would not be possible. At the time I was 84 lb and died. She intervened and started me on tpn which gave me the strength to get to Mayo clinic where I could get diagnosed and treated. Now the quality of my life is amazing I was bed bound and now I'm holding onto the weight independent of TPN and gaining muscle again. She saved my life if she would have operated I would have died. SHe gave me a chance to live again

I requested an exempt letter from Dr. Arts nurse assistant Alyssa and send it to me via patient portal immediately she helped me with any questions I had as far as asking if I can donate plasma, she got back to me through email text and voicemail immediately she is on top of her game. She also explained and we went through all, the steps and preparation I had to go through an order for the surgery. I also received a call from the office to go through it one more time. They were very thorough on what I had to do to prepare for the surgery.

Dr. Artz moved us to a different exam room with a lower exam table so that I could more easily and safely transfer from my wheelchair. I honestly told her that was my first time ever being so accommodated in a Dr's office.

Dr. Artz is excellent. She was able to tell me what my pain on my rib was as well as explaining my gallbladder pain. I had full confidence and trust in her doing my surgery. The medical community and patients are very blessed by her expertise.

It was easy to get in contact with someone to schedule the appointment and everyone I talked to was very nice. I had just interacted with another surgeon's office and it was almost impossible to talk to a real person. Your office was such a pleasant contrast.
